Trillian screenshotsTrillian is a fully featured, independent, skinnable chat client that supports Aim, Icq, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, and Irc. It offers features not possible with original network customers, while supporting standard functions such as audio chat, file transfers, team chats, chat rooms, buddy icons, multiple simultaneous connections to the same network, server-side contact importing, typing notification, direct connection (aim), proxy support, encrypted messaging (aim/icq), Sms support, and privacy settings. Initially released July 1, 2000, as a freeware Irc client, the first commercial edition (trillian Pro 1. 0) was published on September 10, 2002. The software was named after Trillian, a fictional character in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. The old edition of the official site even used to have a shrine to Douglas Adams on its front page.

On August 14, 2009, the prior major release of Trillian for Windows, named Trillian Astra (4. 0), started, along with its own Astra network. Trillian Astra has a no-cost edition, and a premium edition with extra functions.

On November 18, 2009, the first mobile edition of Trillian started for Iphone. As of 2010, final builds for Android, Blackberry, and Ios were available for their respective markets (android Sphere, Blackberry Application World, Application Store) for $4. 99 Usd. Trillian for Ios was initially a paid application but is now completely free.
